Overcoming Design Overwhelm
My Conceptual One Room Design Service
I’ve gotten a few messages from people in the last little while expressing their need for a service that helps them create a cohesive and well thought out design, especially for those of you embarking on the exciting and somewhat daunting process of new builds right now. It was the feeling of being stuck, you have all of these ideas of your taste and style but how do you make a room come together, what makes a good design? You are all so savvy because you know it’s not about throwing a bunch of new furniture in a room. I also wanted to veer away from the kind of cheesy “e-design” offerings that you see being advertised that seem a little copy and paste and provide you with something more elevated and tailored. I crafted this service especially for you!
Design Overwhelm is Real
Product Overload
There is so much product out there in the market, from wallpaper to lighting to furniture. If you have ever stood in a furniture showroom without knowing where to begin or you have bought a lot of stuff that just doesn’t go together, you will know this exact feeling. What looks good with what? What makes that cohesive pulled together look that makes a room really stand out? This service helps you sort through those endless choices and makes pairings and combinations that work.
LAYOUT IS KEY
In my process it starts with a functional layout because a room is nothing without a layout that actually works. I work through this is in a lot of detail in this service.
Going through several iterations to get it just right. You often hear decorators and designers talk about the ”flow” of a room. It just means getting the optimal layout for your space right, so that you are not bumping into your bedroom furniture at 6 am when you’re doing your morning routine!
YOUR INSPO
At the same time that I’m thinking of the best possible layout for your space I’m working through all of your inspiration pictures and thinking of the style direction for the room. It’s about sorting through all of those Pinterest images and finding common threads that speak to your design style. I present my initial direction and concept for your space for you to review at the beginning of the process.
ADDING IN THE INTEREST
I think that really great spaces have something in common, it’s this interesting combinations of materials, furniture and lighting. We often call this “tension”, it’s what makes something interesting. This service focusses on creating those combinations. that just work. You will often see in my work the mix of vintage and new. I talk about this a lot if you follow my Instagram. Or really interesting lighting and wallpaper choices. You have probably noticed that I don’t like generic or builder grade haha! But I think it’s these exact combinations that make a space truly unique and special.
THE POWER OF A GOOD MOODBOARD
I love a good moodboard because it conveys so much. In this example I am showing a living room that has great conversational seating, with a beautiful mohair sofa centred around a coffee table with accent chairs on the opposite side. I will also name the products in my moodboard and where they are from but I say that this isn’t really a shopping list because I want you to use if for so much more than that! It’s a clear direction for you to go and sample products that look like this or are these exact products. I want you to sit in every chair and test it out. It’s also a great way to show types of products that I believe will work without tying you down to a specific product. I want you to have that overall vision for the space.
3D Visuals and Notes
What makes this service unique is the 3D visuals, it’s the ultimate way to visualize how your space can look. It’s kind of one of those game changers that very few people offer, other that full service high end design. I also go into detailed notes on my style direction and choices. for your space. I want you to have that roadmap and understand all of the elements that go into a well designed space.
I truly believe this service is a cure all to design overwhelm and I’m so excited to offer it to you! You can learn more about it here.
